Chicken Karahi | Home Made Chicken Karahi Masala

Chicken Karahi or homemade chicken karahi masala is a very popular recipe in all the corners of Pakistan. It is also a popular Indian recipe in some areas. It is quite interesting to note that this chicken recipe does not need a long time to make. If you are short of time and guests are coming to your home or you want to gout to buy some items and you want to make a dish for the children. It is a quick simple lunch or dinner and you can prepare it in 30 minutes. Make sure to make this chicken recipe in your kitchen to treat yourself with family.

Chicken Karahi | Home Made Chicken Karahi Masala


  • Chicken (small pieces) 1 kg
  • Tomatoes puree 1 cup
  • Garlic and ginger paste 2 tbsp
  • Dry coriander (Crushed) 1 tbsp
  • Crushed red chili 1 tbsp
  • cumin powder 1 tbsp
  • Green chilies 4-5
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • All spices powder ½ tbsp
  • Red chili powder ½ tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh green coriander 1 bunch
  • Oil 1 cup

Preparation Method

  1. Wash the chicken perfectly and keep aside. Make all the ingredients ready at one side
  2. Take a bowl and add crushed chili, cumin powder, crushed dry coriander, salt, red chili powder, and all spices powder and mix all together.
  3. Take a cooking pan and add oil, heat on low-medium heat for a few seconds.
  4. Add all the chicken in cooking pa and fry until chicken pieces change the color and become light golden.
  5. Add green chili (cut from the middle).
  6. Remove extra oil from the cooking pan.
  7. Add ginger-garlic paste and stir.
  8. Include the ready tomato paste in it.
  9. Add granny spices (Karahi Masala) and mix all in the pan.
  10. Cook around 12-15 minutes until the chicken meat is little tendered. (You can adjust the cooking timings as required).
  11. Now open the cover and include all the remaining ingredients in the cooking pan.
  12. Cook again for 5-7 minutes on low heat.
  13. Your chicken meat is tendered now, add crushed green coriander again cook for 2 minutes.
  14. (Optional) To give a coal smoke smell, use anything and put a hot coal on it now sprinkle a little oil on it and cover. You will get an amazing smell. Many people in India and Pakistan like this.
  15. Tasty Chicken Karahi | Home Made Chicken Karahi Masala is ready to go on the dining table.
  16. You can garnish with sliced ginger, whole green chilies, and fresh green (cut) coriander.
  17. Serve hot with Tandoori naan or chappati.
