Try this apple sauce recipe at home and enhance the flavor of your dishes by adding it or present it as an accompaniment and side dish. This apple puree is usually served cold or warm rather than hot. It is typically served with roast meats or duck. However, it is also good with savory pies and cold meats.

 

Ingredients:

8 ounces tart apples

2 tbsp water’1 tbsp butter

1-2 tbsp sugar

Thin strips of lemon zest

 

Preparation Method:

Peel the apple by a peeler or with a sharp knife and cut into quarters and remove the core. Now cut into even thin slices.

Put the apple pieces in a saucepan with water and the lemon zest. Cook, uncovered over low heat until they are very soft, stirring occasionally.

Add all the other ingredients and bring to a boil. Without cover, simmer for about 20 minutes, keep stirring occasionally. Now make it cool slightly.

Place into a food processor or blender and proceed until it is finely smooth.

Press the sauce through a sieve if you prefer smoother barbecue sauce and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as per your taste before serving.

If you want a really rich, spicy chili flavor, add a small red chili, seeded and chopped instead of the chili seasoning.
