Karachi Halwa is an exotic, popular and delicious dessert that is loved by all age group people. It is a much-loved Indian desert, Pakistani dessert and tasty treat of special occasions like Diwali, Dashera, Eid and any other parties. This cornflour halwa is very easy to make, a sweet made with corn flour, sugar, ghee and water.

Karachi Halwa Recipe | Bombay Karachi Halwa Recipe

Cornflour                                                       2 cups
Caster sugar                                                 5 to 6 cups
Water                                                             2 liters

Cardamom Powder / elachi powder         ¼ tsp
Edible food Coloring                                    4-5 drops
Ghee                                                                as required

Pistachios, crushed, fried                            1 tbsp, to garnish

Almonds, crushed, fried                              1 tbsp, to garnish




Preparation Method:

In a large mixing bowl, mix corn flour with water without forming any lumps. Add another ½ cup and continue to mix and keep a sid.


Take large non-stick pan and pour 2 cups of water and add caster sugar in it. Mix well and bring to a boil on medium heat.


Pour in cornflour mixture into the boiling sugar syrup; keep stirring continuously on low flame.


Keep stirring until the mixture thickens completely.


Now add 1 tbsp ghee and mix well until ghee is absorbed.


Add another tablespoon of ghee and continue to mix until it turns glossy. After sometimes, the mixture will start releasing from sides and turning silky and transparent.
Now add food color and cardamom powder.


Keep continue to stir until the mixture will start to form a lump.


Shift the mixture into a greased tray and spoon down with a spoon. Allow sometime to cool.


Sprinkle some chopped pistachio and almonds and rest for an hour.


Cut into square shape or desired shape and serve.


You can store Karachi Halwa or Bombay Karachi Halwa in refrigerator for 4 days.
