Swedes or rutabaga are larger than turnips, greenish-yellow or purplish-yellow on the outside and with pale orange flesh on the inside. They are a good winter vegetable, suitable for use in stews and soups. They are also delicious cooked and mashed with plenty of butter and pepper. In northern part of the Britain they are known as turnips or neeps.
