Ingredients: White Lentils Recipe with Sizzling Oil Garnish (Pakistani Style) Urad Dal
- Scant water – 2 cups
- Urad dal – 1 Cup
- Salt to taste
- Ground turmeric – a pinch
- Red chili powder – ½ teaspoon
- Chopped Tomatoes – ½
For Tarka or Sizzling Oil Garnish
- Canola Oil – 3 tablespoons
- Whole cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
- Slices red onion – ½
- Curry leaves – a few
- Dried whole red chilies – 4 to 5
- Chopped Mint – 5 leaves
- Green chili in julienne form – 1
- Julienned ginger – 2 inch
- Chopped cilantro
Preparation Method: White Lentils Recipe with Sizzling Oil Garnish (Pakistani Style) Urad Dal
Take a sauce pan and boil the water on medium high heat.
Mix the Urad dal in boil water along with chili powder, turmeric and salt. At medium heat, cook the dal for 20 minutes.
Within 20 minutes, the water will evaporate and dal will get soften, not soggy.
Take a dish to place Urad dal.
Add oil in a frying pan. In hot oil, mix onion and fry for three minutes.
Add curry leaves, whole cumin seeds and whole red chilies.
Keep on frying the ingredients till the onion gets golden brown color.
Pour the oil mixture over Urad dal.
Garnish the lentils with cilantro, green chili, ginger and mint leaves.
Serve the dish with chapatti or naan.
Do not forget to turn on the exhaust fan as the sizzling oil process causes smoke and cough.
