Apparently rough looking Yams are edible and have a tuber kind of structure.  It is a sweet vegetable that has a scaly exterior texture. From the outside, it has a ribbed kind of surface.  Its flesh is orange-pink in color. Peeling the skin off is not mandatory as its skin can easily be removed by using scrubbing techniques. Because of slight sweetness, this food source that can be steamed, cooked and boiled.


To enhance the level of sugariness it is mostly suggested to use ginger. There is a lot more starch available in it. The drier nature of this food source makes it a feasible choice for roasting. Yams can be eaten raw, but preferably it should be soaked in order to remove amounts of oxalate present in it. The dietary fiber in it can assist in treating the issues like constipation and cholesterol levels.
