How to Cook Beef Karahi | Beef Karahi Ghost

  • 500 grams of beef (boneless), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2-3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, finely sliced
  • 2-3 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, split lengthwise
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (You can adjust to your preference)
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  • Fresh ginger, julienned, for garnish

How to Make Beef Karahi:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large karahi or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Include the cumin seeds and sizzle them for a few seconds. Then, add the sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  3. Combine the ready ginger-garlic paste, yogurt and cook for a minute or until the raw smell disappears.
  4. Add the beef pieces and brown them on all sides. This may take about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Once the beef becomes browned, include the chopped tomatoes, green chilies, coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook the mixture until the tomatoes soften and release their juices.
  6. Lower the heat to medium, cover the karahi with a lid, and let the beef simmer in its juices for about 20-30 minutes or until it becomes tender. Stir occasionally and add a little water if needed to prevent sticking.
  7. When the beef is cooked and the oil starts to separate from the masala, add garam masala and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
