Balushahi is one of the best dessert recipes of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. It is a customary dessert during festivals or on a happy occasion. Its origin is the Indian subcontinent. It is a popular sweet dish of South Asia. Balushahi is also called Indian doughnut as it similar to a glazed doughnut due to its ingredients; however, differs in taste and texture. In the Southern part of India, almost a similar type of pastry is very famous that is known as Balsaahi or Badushah.

Main Ingredients: Plain flour (Wheat flour), Sugar, Ghee

Ingredients:

2 cup Plain flour

1 pinch Salt

1 tsp Baking powder

1/2 cup Water

1/2 cup Ghee

For sugar syrup

1 cup Sugar

1 cup Water

2 tbsp Lemon juice

1 tsp crushed cardamom

1/2 tsp Orange food color (dissolved in water)

For Garnishing

Silver paper 2-3

Almond 6-8

Pistachio 8-10

Preparation Method:

 

In a large bowl add plain flour, salt, baking powder, ghee, and water.

Mix it with soft hands no need to make the dough.

Scratch it 5-6 times through this process it will make layers.

Leave it for 5 minutes.

Make small balls and press them from the middle.

Heat up oil in a deep pot.

Fry it till golden brown.

In another pot add sugar and water.

Cook till sugar is dissolved.

Add orange food color and lemon juice.

Put off the flame.

Add then Balushahi in slightly hot sugar syrup.

Dip each side for 2 minutes.

Dish it out.

Garnish it with silver paper, almond, and pistachio.

Cook’s Tip

Adding lemon juice in sugar syrup will not allow Balushahi to become hard and get white from the top.
