Chicken Dumplings is one of the favorite dishes of people, living in the United States and Midwestern. Changes have been brought in the recipe with the passage of time. The earliest version contained cornmeal and turnip greens. Sometimes, people add chopped herbs and vegetables like parsley, chives, dill, celery, and carrots in the broth to change the flavor.

 

Chicken Dumplings Recipe

Ingredients

  • Chopped Carrots – Two Medium Size
  • Chopped Onion – One Piece
  • Ground Pepper – ½ tbsp.
  • All-Purpose Flour – ¾ cups
  • Salt – ½ tbsp.
  • Broiler Chicken – Three Pounds
  • Canola Oil – Two tbsp.
  • Chopped Celery – 2
  • Chicken Stock – 6 cups
  • Minced Garlic Cloves – 3 Pieces
  • Peppercorns – 5
  • Bay Leaves – 2
  • Sugar – 2 tbsp
  • Apple Cider – ½ cup

 

Chicken Dumplings Recipe

Ingredients for Dumplings:

  • Salt – ¾ teaspoon
  • All-Purpose Flour – 1 1/3 cups
  • Milk – 2/3 Milk
  • Baking Powder – 2 teaspoons
  • Melted Butter – 1 tbsp

 

Soup Ingredients:

  • Minced Thyme – 2 teaspoons
  • Minced Parsley – 2 teaspoons
  • Whipping Cream – ½ cup
  • Pepper & Salt to taste

 

 

Chicken Dumplings Recipe

Preparation Method:

Take a bowl and add salt, pepper, flour ½ cup and chicken. Remember, add the chicken pieces one by one and toss to coat properly. Take a stockpot and add oil. Heat it on medium-high flame. When the chicken gets brown color, remove the pieces from the pan. In this pan, add celery, carrots, and onion. Stir the ingredients till the onions get soft. Now add garlic paste and stir it for a minute. Now, add flour ¼ cup and mix well. Keep on stirring and add the stock gradually. Mix bay leaves, apple cider, peppercorns, and sugar. Move towards the chicken and wait to get a boil. Slow the flame, simmer for 20 minutes till you can see the chicken juice.

To make dumplings, take a bowl and add salt, baking powder and whisk flour. Take another bowl for melted butter and whisk milk. Add the ingredients in the flour mixture.

Remove the chicken broth and let it cool on the normal temperature. Take out the bay leaves and fat from chicken soup. Discard the bones and skin from chicken. Come towards the soup and cook it on high flame till the mixture gets boiled.

Over the simmering soup, drop the chicken dumplings one by one. Keep the pan on low flame and cook it for 15 minutes after inserting the dumplings. Add thyme, parsley, and cream. Enhance the flavor by adding pepper and salt.
