Perfect Steamed Rice Recipe

In Steamer

Ingredients: Perfect Steamed Rice Recipe

 

Long grain white rice                      2250 g

Cold water or stock                         1 ¼ cups

 

Preparation Method: Perfect Steamed Rice Recipe

 

Put rice in a fine meshed sieve and rinse under cold water. Let drain for 5 minutes then place in a heatproof bowl that fists in steamer. Add water. Fill a pot or wok with water (water should not touch steamer) and bring to rapid simmer. Place steamer over water, cover and steam rice 20-25 minutes or until tender and water has evaporated.

 

Remove wok or pot from heat. Place a cloth under lid to stop any condensation dripping back onto rice and let stand for 5-10 minutes. Fluff rice with a fork and serve. If not using rice immediately, refrigerate and reheat when needed.

In liquid in pot with meat or vegetables steaming

 

SERVES                 2-3

 

Ingredients: Perfect Steamed Rice Recipe

 

Long grain white rice                      225 g

Cold water or stock                         2 cups

 

 

Preparation Method: Perfect Steamed Rice Recipe

 

Bring water to boil in pot, add rice, stirring well and reduce heat to a rapid simmer. Place a bamboo steamer or steamer basket with meat or vegetables onside over water, cover and steam 12-15 minutes or until liquid absorbed.

 

Remove from heat and stand for 5-10 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve. If not using immediately, refrigerate rice and reheat when needed.

 

 

Cooking Note: Perfect Steamed Rice Recipe

 

If cooking more than 1 cup long grain rice only add 1 ½ liquid per cup rice after the first cup.

 

 

Variation: Perfect Steamed Rice Recipe

 Herbed Rice:

Cook 1 cup long-grain rice according to one of the above recipes. Gently fold in 1/3 finely chopped fresh herbs such as parsley or coriander (cilantro).
